چکیده

We study algorithmic problems in multi-stage open shop processing systems that are centered around reachability and deadlock detection questions. We characterize safe and unsafe system states. We show that it is easy to recognize system states that can be reached from the initial state (where the system is empty), but that in general it is hard to decide whether one given system state is reachable from another given system state. We show that the problem of identifying reachable deadlock states is hard in general open shop systems, but is easy in the special case where no job needs processing on more than two machines (by linear programming and matching theory), and in the special case where all machines have capacity one (by graph-theoretic arguments). 1998 ACM Subject Classification F.2.2

Generalized Cyclic Open Shop Scheduling and a Hybrid Algorithm

In this paper, we first introduce a generalized version of open shop scheduling (OSS), called generalized cyclic open shop scheduling (GCOSS) and then develop a hybrid method of metaheuristic to solve this problem. Open shop scheduling is concerned with processing n jobs on m machines, where each job has exactly m operations and operation i of each job has to be processed on machine i . However...

Minimizing the total tardiness and makespan in an open shop scheduling problem with sequence-dependent setup times

We consider an open shop scheduling problem with setup and processing times separately such that not only the setup times are dependent on the machines, but also they are dependent on the sequence of jobs that should be processed on a machine. A novel bi-objective mathematical programming is designed in order to minimize the total tardiness and the makespan. Among several mult...

A Multi-Objective Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm for a Possibilistic Open Shop Problem to Minimize Weighted Mean Tardiness and Weighted Mean Completion Times

We consider an open shop scheduling problem. At first, a bi-objective possibilistic mixed-integer programming formulation is developed. The inherent uncertainty in processing times and due dates as fuzzy parameters, machine-dependent setup times and removal times are the special features of this model. The considered bi-objectives are to minimize the weighted mean tardiness and weighted mean co...

A multi-objective genetic algorithm (MOGA) for hybrid flow shop scheduling problem with assembly operation

Scheduling for a two-stage production system is one of the most common problems in production management. In this production system, a number of products are produced and each product is assembled from a set of parts. The parts are produced in the first stage that is a fabrication stage and then they are assembled in the second stage that usually is an assembly stage. In this article, the first...
